The Norwood Civic Youth Council connects K–12 students with local government — building civic awareness, leadership skills, and community pride right here in Norwood.
"Government of the people, by the people, for the people — built one young leader at a time."
The Norwood Civic Youth Council is a structured civic education program connecting Norwood students directly with their local government.
NCYC gives K–12 students a genuine seat at the table — not a simulation. Students engage with real city officials, explore real issues facing Norwood, and develop the civic identity that powers a healthy democracy.
Founded and championed by Council Member Jason Provins, NCYC launches Fall 2026 in partnership with Norwood City Schools.
Sessions held at Norwood City Hall with elected officials and city staff
We prioritize building a program that reflects all of Norwood — not just academic stars
Designed in collaboration with Norwood City Schools for maximum community impact
NCYC serves students across all grade levels through age-appropriate civic experiences, with 10 students per tier and 5 sessions per year.
Young learners discover what local government does and how their neighborhood works — through hands-on activities and visits to City Hall.
Middle schoolers go deeper — analyzing real community issues, engaging with city officials, and developing advocacy and leadership skills.
High schoolers take on real civic responsibilities — presenting research to council, shadowing officials, and building a leadership portfolio.
Students in grades K–12 apply online. 10 spots available per tier — 30 total. Diversity is our priority.
Applications reviewed by a panel evaluating community connection, civic curiosity, and commitment.
Selectees notified by July 15. All applicants receive a personal response with results.

NCYC is completely free to all participants. The program is supported by the City of Norwood and designed to be accessible to every student who applies.
